The Protector is located between the pump intake and the motor. Its primary functions consist of:

• Protects motor from being contaminated by the well fluid

• Allows pressure equalization between the downhole pressure and the motor’s internal pressure

• Houses the thrust bearing, which absorbs axial thrust from the pump

• Connects the intake to the motor through the protector by its shaft and couplings
